Verificou-se a resistência à fratura da crista marginal de terceiros molares humanos, recém-extraídos, hígidos, submetidos a preparos tipo túnel e restaurados com diferentes materiais. Os resultados demonstraram que o preparo tipo túnel diminuiu a resistência à fratura da crista marginal, e que nenhum material foi capaz de devolver, totalmente, a resistência à fratura perdida com a execução do referido preparo.

The authors investigated the fracture resistance of the marginal ridge of the human third molars, freshly extracted, intact, with tunnel preparation and restored with different mate rials. The results showed that the tunnel preparation decreased the marginal ridges fracture resistance of the specimens; and that none restorative materials was able to increased, completely, the fracture resistance lost with the tunnel preparation.
