Resumo
O presente trabalho observou os aspectos levados em consideração quando da seleção do cirurgião-dentista pelos alunos do primeiro ano dos cursos de graduação das áreas de biológicas - B (n = 53), exatas - E (n = 84) e humanas - H (n = 174) do Campus de Araraquara – UNESP. O instrumento de medida foi um questionário pré-codificado composto por questões relacionadas aos seguintes aspectos: localização profissional; aparência do consultório; forma de atendimento pelo pessoal auxiliar; agendamento de consultas; sala de atendimento clínico; características desejáveis do cirurgião-dentista; tratamento odontológico; forma de apresentação do plano de tratamento, e orçamento. Os graduandos das três áreas consideraram os mesmos aspectos para a seleção do dentista em todos os itens estudados. Os dados foram analisados por meio da estatística descritiva (distribuições absolutas e percentuais). A localização profissional não foi considerada importante para a escolha do cirurgião-dentista (B = 37,5%; E = 26,5%; H = 37,7%). No aspecto da aparência do consultório, a limpeza da sala de recepção foi a mais citada (B = 37,5%; E = 47,0%; H = 50,9%). Quanto ao atendimento pelo pessoal auxiliar, a atenção e a cortesia foram as mais consideradas (B = 27,8%; E = 20,5%; H = 32,1%). A disponibilidade de dias e horários foi o item mais relacionado para o agendamento de consultas (B = 60,8%; E = 57,8%; H = 49,1%). Com relação às características desejáveis em um cirurgião-dentista, destacou-se a competência profissional (B = 43,8%; E = 53,0%; H = 52,8%) e, acerca do tratamento odontológico, foi a qualidade nos tratamentos executados (B = 57,4%; E = 55,4%; H = 47,2%) a característica mais desejável. A explicação relativa ao custo foi considerada a mais importante (B = 30,7%; E = 36,1%; H = 52,8%) no aspecto orçamento. Conclui-se que os graduandos das áreas de biológicas, exatas e humanas observaram aspectos semelhantes para a escolha do cirurgião-dentista.

Abstract
The present study observed the issues considered when graduate students select their own dentist. Graduate students of different graduate areas of the UNESP University were invited to participate. Only first grade students were interviewed, and 53 were from biological science (B), 84 were from exact science (E), and 174 were students from human science (H). A precoded questionnaire was applied, and questions versed about professional localization, dental office´s appearance, dental team attendance and schedule, clinical office, desirable characteristics of the dentists, dental treatment, presentation of the dental treatment plan, and budget. The graduate students of the three different areas of science considered the same aspects to select their own dentist, regarding all studied items. Professional localization was not considered important when choosing a dentist (B = 37.5%, E = 26.5% and H = 37.7%). When dental office´s appearance was considered, cleanliness of the reception room was the most cited (B = 37.5%, E = 47.0% and H = 50.9%). Regarding the dental team attendance, the most important item was attention and courtesy (B = 27.8%, E = 20.5% and H = 32.1%). The availability of days and times was the most cited when scheduling appointments (B = 60.8%, E = 57.8% and H = 49.1%).The most desirable characteristics of a dentist was professional competence (B = 43.8%, E = 53.0% and H = 52.8%). In relation to the dental treatment, it was considered important the quality of the executed treatment (B = 57.4%, E = 55.4% and H = 47.2%). The explanation by the dentist about the costs involved was considered the most important issue regarding budget (B = 30.7%, E = 36.1% and H = 52.8%). It can be concluded that graduate students among biological, exact and human sciences pointed the same aspects when choosing their own dentist.
