Isokinetic exercises in the management of TMJ clicking sounds

Resumo
Neste estudo foi avaliada a eficácia dos exercícios isocinéticos como forma de terapia para a eliminação ou diminuição dos estalidos da articulação temporomandibular, nos casos de deslocamento anterior do disco com redução, em pacientes assintomáticos. Os resultados mostraram uma eliminação ou diminuição dos estalidos articulares em 60% dos pacientes do grupo de estudo e em 30% do grupo controle. Considerando tratar-se de uma modalidade terapêutica conservadora e reversível, a sua utilização poderia ser indicada nos casos em que a queixa principal fosse a presença dos estalidos articulares não acompanhados de sintomatologia dolorosa.

Abstract
In this study we analyzed the isokinetic exercises as a treatment modality for the management of clicking sounds in asymptomatic patients with anterior disc displacements with reduction. The results showed an improvement in 60% of the patients in the study group and in 30% of the patients in the control group. Considering isokinetic exercises as a conservative and reversible therapeutic modality, it could be indicated for patients whose chief complaint is the presence of clicking sounds without pain.
