Abstract

Cem questionários foram distribuídos em consultórios odontológicos da cidade de Ribeirão Preto – SP, com o intuito de detectar a porcentagem de profissionais que tratam as DTMs, bem como os tipos e as características dos tratamentos empregados. Os resultados obtidos mostraram, entre outras coisas, que 98% dos entrevistados já receberam pacientes com DTMs, 80% deles acreditam na eficiência de métodos conservadores, embora muitos ainda julguem que as terapias definitivas sejam mais indicadas. Concluiu-se que ainda predominam controvérsias a respeito da etiologia e do tratamento das DTMs e que todo dentista deve estar atualizado e baseado em princípios científicos.

Resumo

One hundred questionnaires were distributed in dentistry cli-nics of the city of Ribeirão Preto – SP, for detecting the professionals’ percentage that treat TMDs as well as the types and the treatments employeds’ characteristics. The obtained results showed that 98% of the interviewed already received patient with TMDs, 80% of them believe in the efficiency of conservative methods, although many still judge that the definitive therapies are more suitable solution. It can be concluded that controversies still prevail regarding the etiology and treatment of TMDs and that dentist should be modernized and based on scientific principles.
