A união formada entre o esmalte condicionado e uma resina adesiva ainda é um fator de controvérsia, sobre tudo em relação aos materiais e às regiões do esmalte submetidos aos procedimentos adesivos. A profundidade de penetração das resinas ortodônticas Concise (3M) e Superbond (Ortho Source) na superfície de esmalte, após 30 segundos de condicionamento ácido, foi analisada em microscopia óptica. Foram utilizados 18 pré-molares extraídos por razões ortodônticas que, após a cola gem de bráquetes, foram seccionados e descalcificados para a observação dos tags nas regiões oclusal, média e cervical. Observou-se que a resina Concise apresentou tags com maior comprimento médio que a resina Superbond. Na resina Concise os tags da região oclusal apresentaram-se maiores que os das regiões média e cervical, que foram estatisticamente iguais. Na resina Superbond, os tags apresentaram valores iguais para as três regiões analisadas.

Adhesive enamel bonding can be affected by different factors such as type of material, enamel surface and others. Orthodontic adhesives penetrations were observed after 30 seconds of acid application for bonding brackets with Concise (3M) and Superbond (Ortho Source). Sound premolars (20) which had been extracted for orthodontic treatment were used. Brackets were bonded according to the manufacturer instructions and cut into sections, and then decalcified to analyze the resinous projections on superior, middle and inferior regions under optical microscope. The Concise resin showed greater penetration when compared with Superbond resin. There was no significant difference in the tags length on the middle and inferior regions, however they were smaller than on the superior region in Concise resin. The Superbond resin showed the same tags length on the three regions.
