Este trabalho teve por finalidade avaliar os erros e acertos na marcação dos pontos utilizados na análise cefalométrica frontal de Ricketts e a influência de diferentes materiais (papéis) nos resultados das marcações. A marcação desses pontos foi feita por 36 alunos em fase final de curso de Especialização em Ortodontia, e cada um marcou os pontos três vezes, em três materiais diferentes: papel ultraphan, papel vegetal e filme transparente de poliéster (transparência), totalizando 108 cefalogramas. Após análise estatística dos resultados. chegou-se as seguintes conclusões: 1. Os pontos cefalométricos estudados apresentaram diferentes porcentagens de erros e acertos, sendo divididos em três grupos de acordo com os resultados obtidos. a) pontos com boa confiabilidade; b) pontos com média confiabilidade e c) pontos com baixa confiabilidade 2. A utilização dos três diferentes materiais na confecção dos cefalogramas não produziu diferença estatisticamente significante para acertos, podendo ser utilizados indistintamente.

This work has had as its purpose to appraise the mistaken and correct attempts in the marking procedure of the frontal cephalometric landmarks employed in Ricketts' cephalometrics analysis and the influence of the use of different materials (sheets) on the marking procedure results. The marking was performed by 36 students in the final stage of the graduate Orthodontics course, each student having marked the points thrice, on three different materials: ultra-phan, tracing paper and polyester film, totaling 108 cephalograms. After the statistic analysis of the results, the following conclusions were reached: 1. The cephalometric landmarks studied showed different percentages of mistaken and correct markings, having been divided into three groups in accordance with the results obtained: a) landmarks evincing good reliability; b) landmarks of medium reliability and; c) landmarks of low reliability. 2. The three different materials used to make the cephalograms produced no statistically significant differences as to the correct marking results thus allowing for their interchangeable use.
