A sintomatologia, o tipo mais eficiente de tratamento, e a posição final do côndilo após o tratamento oclusal foram verificados em um grupo de 67 pacientes, por meio de questionário e exames clinico e radiográfico. Aposição condilar obtida pelas radiografias foi avaliada pelas medidas realizadas com um analisador de imagem computadorizado (Minimop). Os resultados permitiram concluir que: 1. a dor na cabeça foi a queixa principal dos pacientes com disfunção temporomandibular; 2. a placa de mordida e ajuste oclusal são as modalidades mais eficientes de tratamento; 3. a posição final do côndilo na fossa mandibular é ligeiramente à frente do centro da fossa mandibular para a maioria das articulações examinadas.

The symptomatology, the most efficient treatment, and the final position of the condyle after occlusal handling were verified in 67 patients by means of a questionnaire and clinical and radiographic exams. The condylar position as revealed by the radiographs was measured in a computerized image analyser ("Minimop"). The results led us to the following conclusions: 1. headache was the main complaint among the patients with temporomandibular dysfunction; 2. occlusal adjustment and plaque were the most efficient method of treatment; 3. most examined joints showed the condylar position slightly in front of the center oF the mandibular fossa as the condyle final position.
