Utilization of dentin adhesives as marginal sealers of amalgam and posterior composite class II restorations

Resumo

Foi avaliada a capacidade de selamento marginal de 4 adesivos dentinários disponíveis no mercado: Scotchbond 2 (3M do Brasil); ARMD (Johnson & Johnson); Prisma Bond 3 (Dentsply) e XR Bond (Sybron-Kerr), quando utilizados em restaurações de amálgama (Dispersalloy - Johnson & Johnson), em restaurações de resina composta posterior (P50-3M; Adaptic IIP - J&J; APH - Dentsply e XR-Bond Sybron-Kerr) e em restaurações realizadas com a associação amálgama/resina composta posterior. Foram executadas 65 restaurações MOD em dentes humanos extraidos, sendo que as cavidades mesial e distal foram restauradas com diferentes combinações de material. Estes dentes foram submetidos à ciclagem térmica e analisados quanto à infiltração marginal de corante, nas interfaces dente/material restaurador e material restaurador/material restaurador (amálgama + resina composta posterior). Analisou-se a penetração linear do corante em cada espécime. Os resultados desse estudo mostraram que a utilização de adesivos dentinários diminuiu a infiltração marginal das restaurações classe II com amálgama, resina composta posterior ou amálgama + resina composta posterior. Também mostrou que o verniz odontológico em restaurações de amálgama possibilitou uma maior infiltração marginal cervical. dessas restaurações. Os testes demonstraram que não houve diferença estatisticamente significante entre os vários adesivos dentinários e entre as restaurações de amálgama e resina composta posterior.

Abstract

This study evaluated the marginal sealing ability of four dentinal bonding agents: Scotchbond 2 (3M); ARMD (J&J); Prisma Bond 3 (Dentsply) and XR Bond (Sybron-Kerr), when used with amalgam (Dispersalloy - J&J), posterior composite (P-50- 3M; Adaptic IIP - J&J; APH - Dentsply), and between amalgam and posterior composite in cavities restored with both of them. Sixty-tive MOD cavities preparations were cut in extracted human teeth, so that mesial and distal cavities were restored with a different association: restorative material/dentinal bonding system. These teeth were thermally cycled and microleakage was assessed by dye penetration. Image analysis was used to determine the total amount of linear leakage for each specimen. Under the experimental conditions, the Use of the bonding systems improved the marginal seal of amalgam and posterior composite restorations. Less microleakage was observed in dentinal adhesive-lined amalgam restorations than in vamish-lined restorations. The tests procedures resulted in dif[erences not statistica11y significant between the various dentinal bonding systems and between amalgam and posterior composite restorations.
