Abstract

Evaluations of tissue response to difterent suture materials were made in 10 patients, which gad indication of wedge periodontal surgery. Three kinds of sutures were used: silk, nylon and polyglactin 910, all 4-0 in diameter. Interrupted sutures were previously placed, obtaining, in the surgical procedure, biopsies on the third and seventh postoperative days after placement of the sutures. The results revealed that: silk and nylon presented similar behaviour, and a more intense inflammatory reaction. Poly Vicryl promoted the least inflammatory response. The orifice produced by the suture material, was partially (three days) on totally (seven days) lined by epithelium for all materials studied
