Resumo
Através da análise de 31 mandíbulas maceradas de crianças de ambos os sexos, nas idades de 2 a 5 anos, verificou-se a posição do forame mental e concluiu-se que: em relação ao lado, sua posição não variou e o forame foi sempre único; em relação à idade, sua posição se alterou no sentido horizontal e vertical, e, em relação aos dentes, localizou-se em 64,5% dos casos abaixo do 12 molar decíduo. O diâmetro do forame também se modificou em relação à idade, e a forma encontrada foi oval em 58,1% e circular em 41,9% dos casos.

Abstract
Thirty-one macerated mandibles of 2 - 5 years-old of both sexes have been analised in order to verify the mental foramen's position. It was concluded that: the foramen's position has not changed in relation to the side and the foramen has always been single; the foramen's position got changed in the horizontal and vertical direction with the age and; in relation to the teeth, it has placed below the deciduous first molar in 64.5% of the cases. Foramen's diameter has also changed with the age and foramen's shape has been found oval in 58.1% and round in 41.9% of the cases.
