Effects of dehydration during pregnancy on the dental caries incidence in rat offspring

Resumo
Neste trabalho foi estudada a incidência de lesões cariosas em ratos nascidos de animais desidratados no início e no final do período gestacional. Foram utilizados 80 ratos machos, divididos em 4 grupos: controle, desidratado no início da gestação, tratado com ração cariogênica e desidratado no final da gestação. Os dados foram obtidos através de análise das peças dentárias em microscópio estereoscópico, com emprego de métodos específicos para determinação da incidência de cárie dentária. Os resultados mostram que não ocorrem alterações estatisticamente significativas na incidência de cárie dentária nas condições experimentais deste trabalho.

Abstract
ln the present work it was studied the incidence carious lesions in male rats born from mothers submitted to dehydration in the beginning and in the final period of pregnancy. It were used 80 male rats divided in (our (4) groups: control rats; rats whose mothers were submitted to dehydration in the beginning of pregnancy; rats whose mothers were submitted to dehydration in the final period of pregnancy and rats treated with cariogenic chow. The data were obtained through the analysis of dental tissues in a stereoscopic microscope utilizing a specific method to determine the incidence of dental caries. The results show no significant alterations in the incidence of dental caries in all groups studied.
