Abstract

The impression technique is taken as one of the various factors which may have influence on the load distribution on the alveolar ridge and abutment teeth during mastication. Exactly because the alginate technique is simple, fast and easy of being employed it has been neglected by the dentist. On the other hand, the altered-cast functional technique is much more laborious; although it offers the best results, it has not been used in the every-day clinics. The combined technique may also offer good results, if employed criteriously. As the alveolar ridge with be subjected to the displatements caused by the appliance base, the effect of each impression technique was studied on it, during the impression making. It was possible to conclude that the main difference, as far as pressure is concerned, lies on the retromolar pad area. Only in this region it was evidenced less displacement by the alginate technique as compared to the other techniques.
