Abstract

A vaidade, muito mais do que o desejo de melhor mastigar, tem sido o motivo dominante do desenvolvimento da Odontologia. Um dos problemas estéticos mais comuns é a alteração da cor dental. Com o intuito de satisfazer pacientes que desejam dentes brancos, os cirurgiões-dentistas têm oferecido um amplo espectro de tratamentos, que vão desde a cobertura total dos dentes com resinas compostas ou porcelana até tratamentos mais conservadores como o clareamento dental, amplamente difundido pela mídia. Porém, muitos são os questionamentos ou dúvidas relacionados ao efeito dos agentes clareadores. Sendo assim, este estudo tem por objetivo verificar, na literatura, os possíveis efeitos causados pelos agentes clareadores nas estruturas dentais (esmalte, dentina, cemento e polpa).

Resumo

Vanity, much more than the desire of a more efficient mastication, has been the major target in Dentistry development. One of the most common esthetical problems is the alteration of dental shade. In order to satisfy patients who wish for white teeth, dentists have provided a wide variation of treatments, ranging from total cover of the teeth with composite resins or porcelain to more conservative therapies such as dental bleaching, widely spread by the media. Even so, many are the questionaments or doubts related to the effect of the dental bleaching agents. Thus, the objective of this study is to verify, in dental literature, the possible effects caused by dental bleaching agents on dental structures (enamel, dentin, cement and pulp).
