Abstract

Several studies have evaluated implant impression transfer techniques related to transfer splinting, impression material and implant alignment. The findings suggested the need for more research that enables the clinician to select the most appropriate procedures. This study evaluated the linear accuracy of gypsum casts obtained by transfer impression of four implants in a metal master cast. Besides the implant parallelism, three impression materials (addition silicone, polyether and irreversible hydrocolloid) and two impression techniques (splinted and non-splinted transfer) were evaluated. After data analysis, it can be concluded that addition silicone was the impression material that showed the best results, while the irreversible hydrocolloid showed the worst. The implant parallelism did not influence cast precision, and the splinting transfer was not adequate for using in combination with polyether.
