Os autores analisaram os deslocamentos dos dentes artificiais ocorridos na confecção de proteses totais superiores, procurando esclarecer as causas das alterações na dimensão vertical de oclusão previamente estabelecidas. Com auxílio de um microscópio comparador linear e pontos metálicos furados nas superfícies oclusais e incisais dos dentes, foi possível registrar o comportamento das alterações dentais no sentido látero-lateral e ântero-posterior. Após os dados serem submetidos ao teste de Tukey (p < 0,05), os autores concluíram que: (1) as distâncias molar/molar e pré-molar/pré-molar apresentaram contração; (2) a maior contração ocorreu na região dos segundos molares; e, (3) no sentido ântero-posterior as alterações foram de expansão.

The authors analysed the teeth movement occurred in the upper denture with the aim to understand the reason of the change in the occlusion vertical dimension previously stabilished. With aim of a comparation microscope and metallic points fixed in the occlusal and incisal of the teeth, it waspossible to record the behavior of the dental changes in the lateral and labial-posterior sides. After ANOVA test, the authors concluded that: (1) the molar/molar and bicuspid/bicuspid distances showed contraction; (2) the great contraction was in second molar position; and, (3) expansion was the alteration occurred in the labial-posterior region.
