Os autores realizaram estudo histológico em ratos para verificar a interferência da antissepsia com solução de PVP-I (Dermoiodine TópicoR) na reparação de alvéolo dental. Os animais foram divididos em três grupos: C1 , onde não foi realizada antissepsia pré-operatória; C2, onde se realizou a antissepsia simulada com soro fisiológico; T, onde se realizou antissepsia com solução de povidona iodo com 1% de iodo ativo. Diante da análise descritiva das alterações histológicas ocorridas no terço médio do alvéolo dental após a extração dental, concluiu-se que: a antissepsia com PVP-I não interferiu na cronologia da reparação de feridas de extração dental; a ação mecânica da gaze sobre a mucosa bucal, promovida durante a manobra de antissepsia, não interferiu na reparação do alvéolo dental.

Povidone-iodine a-PVP) has been widly used in pre-operative procedures both in general and in oral surgeries for the prevention of post-operative bacteremia. The purpose of this study is to analyse histologically the role of intra-oral antisepsis with Topic DermoiodineR on the dental sockets wound healing after tooth extraction. Forty-five male rats were divided into three groups: Control Group with 15 rats which were not submitted to any antisepsis procedure; Saline Solution Group with 15 rats submitted to antisepsis with saline solution for one minute prior to tooth extraction; I-PVP Group also 15 rats submitted to antisepsis with I-PVP (Topic DermoiodineR) for one minute. After that, the extraction of the right central incisors of ali rats was carried out. The animals were sacrificed at 3, 10 and 21 days after the extraction. The middle portion of the dental sockets was analysed. The results showed that I-PVP neither improved nor modified the wound healing following tooth extraction.
