Abstract

The production of hyaluronidase, chondroitin sulfatase, lecithinase and gelatinase was investigated in various bacterial strains isolated from the oral cavity. Hyaluronidase was found to be produced by 20 of the 30 strains of the S. aureus, 18 from the 21 strain of the S. pyogenes and all the 4 strains of the A. viscosus. None of the strain searched produced chondroitin sulfatase and gelatinase. All the 30 strains of the S. aureus and all the strains of the A. viscosus produced lecithinase.

Keywords

Histolytic enzymes, aerobic oral bacteria, hyaluronidase, chondroitin sulfatase, lecithinase, gelatinase.
